Their stories are a testament to resilience and strength. Selflessly sacrificing for their families and serving their community. Inspiring us to emulate their spirit of compassion, service and dedication to the greater good. We honor them by upholding their legacy of faith and character. May we draw strength from their example and continue to build a community rooted in kindness and mutual respect, ensuring that their legacy lives on through our actions and our hearts.

October 2023 - 2nd Place Winners of the Muertos Fest Altar Contest
This altar honors our mother, grandmothers and extended familia. Honoring their dedication in creating a home full of love and tradition. Recognizing that the warmth we feel deep within, when we hear a screen door slam, smell café in the air and hear chisme (gossip) and laughter coming from the heart of the home, it is all because of them. Reminding us of traditions like gathering in the cocina (kitchen) to make tamales, will always keep us connected. We honor them by never forgetting these meaningful experiences and traditions that are forever cemented in our mind.

October 2022 - 1st Place Winners of the Muertos Fest Altar Contest
This altar honors our mother, grandparents, and great grandparents, paying homage to their gardens, that we played in as children. Giving gratitude to the raíces (roots) that they planted into la tierra firma that would ultimately grow within us. Teaching us how the garden connects us to our heritage, culture and identity. Showing us that once a seed is sown that it never dies but only resurrects life. That from death comes new life and hope. That by siempre sembrando vida, we can remain grounded and connected to them as they tend to their eternal garden across the marigold bridge.
October 2021 - 2nd Place Winners of the Muertos Fest Altar Building Contest
This altar honors our mother, grandparents, and great grandparents. Paying homage to three generations of sacrifices and hard work. Their selflessness provided us with opportunities that they weren’t afforded. Guiding us to live life with passion while celebrating our culture’s traditions. Teaching us that understanding our heritage, roots and ancestry is an important part of carving out our future. With love and gratitude, we built this alter so visitors can be fully immersed in the bright light of our loved ones that have crossed over the marigold bridge.
